Creed has never been more crucial in an age of spiritual and intellectual perplexity. Every Muslim is required to learn it, and those who do so will be protected from aberrant views if they adhere to the infallible texts of Islam’s scholarly community. The Imam al-Tahawi Creed is the simplest, most effective, and least controversial of them all. It is the most dependable of the early articulations of Muslim thinking and serves as a solid foundation for Islamic faith. Because Imam al-Tahawi avoided convoluted theological concerns and presented the most fundamental principles of dogmatic theology in a methodical manner, his credo has found extraordinary support in the Muslim world. Many eminent Muslim scholars have produced commentary on it in the thousand years after it was written. It is still studied throughout the Muslim world and is becoming more popular in the West. Imam Abu Ja fur al-Tahawi was born in Taha, Upper Egypt, in 239 AH/853 CE and lived until 321/933. He was born into a family marked by intellectualism and nobility, as well as religion and passion. He was an expert in both Islam’s basic sources and the supplementary sciences required for independent reasoning. Imam al-Tahawi is best known for his eponymous doctrine. He was a first-rate jurist, a great grammarian and philologist, and an educated master of literature.Imam al-Tahawi was given the name al-Azdi in honour of the Yemeni clan Azd al-Hajar; he was therefore a descendant of a people about whom the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, remarked, “Faith is Yemeni.”
In the midst of doubt and ambiguity, his creed shines brightly, providing searchers of truth with a dazzling set of simple yet sound creedal claims.
